The job interview is often the most nerve-racking stage of the recruitment process. The good news is that most of the things that trip candidates up can be fixed with preparation. Here are 10 tips you can put into practice.

1. Research the company

Learn about the company's products, values, and latest news. Recruiters appreciate candidates who understand where they are applying.

2. Understand the job description

Note the key skills the role requires, then prepare examples from your experience that prove you have them.

3. Use the STAR method

When describing your experience, explain the Situation, Task, Action, and Result so your answers are well structured and convincing.

4. Practice common questions

"Tell me about yourself", "What are your strengths and weaknesses?", and "Why should we hire you?" come up in almost every interview.

5. Be on time

Aim to arrive 10–15 minutes early. For online interviews, check your connection, camera, and microphone beforehand.

6. Dress neatly and match the company culture

Formal attire is a safe choice for corporate companies, while smart casual suits startups.

7. Mind your body language

Sit up straight, make eye contact, and smile. Avoid crossing your arms or fiddling with your phone.

8. Prepare questions for the interviewer

Ask about the team's challenges, the work culture, or the goals for your first 3 months. This shows enthusiasm.

9. Be honest about your salary expectations

Research the salary range for the position and give a realistic figure backed by clear reasons.

10. Send a thank-you note

Send a short email after the interview to say thank you. This small professional gesture often leaves a good impression.
